The second I heard Elton John was performing at Donald Trump’s Presidential Inauguration, I sensed something fishy. It seemed odd that the iconic singer would take the gig. After all, the “Tiny Dancer” singer told the crowd at a Hillary Clinton rally in October that, “We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian.” Turns out my Spidey senses were bang-on, despite confirmation from his team.
“Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the mall for inauguration,” Anthony Scaramucci, a member of Trump’s presidential transition team told the New York Post, adding it “shows our commitment to gay rights.” Scaramucci also claimed, “This will be the first American president in US history that enters the White House with a pro-gay rights stance.”
It appears the claim was just one big lie. Can’t say that I’m surprised. “Elton is not performing at Trump’s inauguration,” the singer’s rep confirms to Entertainment Tonight.
Not exactly sure why Trump’s team would claim otherwise. Maybe it was wishful thinking on their part since, “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer” were frequently used at Trump rallies. It’ll be interesting to see who actually performs during Trump’s inauguration, taking place in Washington DC on January 20. Who do you think will perform? Weigh in below.
