The stand-alone Star Wars film about Han Solo just added a key cast member. Community alum Donald Glover has been chosen to play a young Lando Calrissian. The iconic gambler from Cloud City was originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever,” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller posted on StarWars.com.
Glover joins Alden Ehrenreich, who’s stepping into Harrison Ford’s shoes, in the origin story about Han and his best buddy Chewbacca. If you recall, Calrissian lost his starship Millenium Falcon to Han.
Filming on the sci-fi flick is expected to begin early next year for a May 25, 2018 release in U.S. theaters. What do you think of the cast so far? Sound off below.
