Which Oscar Winner Is Set To Play Geppetto In Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Remake?

Pinocchio is just one of the many upcoming live-action remakes in development over at Disney. It appears the project is coming along based on this potential casting.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals Tom Hanks is in early talks to play Geppetto, the iconic puppet maker who brings the titular character to life. If he signs on, he’ll work with Paul King who’s attached to direct.

Pinocchio was the second animated film ever made by Disney, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs being the first. The film was based on the fictional character in the children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi. It followed the story of a wooden boy puppet crafted by Geppetto who dreams of becoming a real boy. It’s theme song “When You Wish Upon A Star” not only won the Best Original Song Oscar but has since become Disney’s theme song. Pinocchio also won an Academy Award for Best Original Score.

This isn’t the only Pinocchio project in the works. Netflix also has one with Guillermo del Toro attached to direct. His version is reportedly a stop-motion musical.

Thoughts on this potential casting? Yay or nay?
