Last night, Dan and I attended NABS Cannes Lions Screening where award winning commercials from 2011 were shown. One of the commercials singled out for its outstanding achievement was Diesel’s Island campaign. Personally, I loved the print ads but wasn’t crazy about the commercial. But to each their own I say. For the brand’s 2012 Spring & Summer campaign, they’ve left the deserted island and headed back to the studio. Once again, I love the imagery but that goes without saying. Ever since I worked in retail back in the day, I’ve always appreciated the Italian denim’s visuals.
Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the campaign seems to be a play on misproportion. A bevy of female and male models pose with oversized and miniature props ranging from a boiling pot, bird cage, safe, life-sized robot and a dollhouse on fire to name a few. Simon Nessman, Patrick Kafka and Dmitriy Tanner are the trio of male models appearing in the ad campaign. I’m definitely going to highlight them in future editions of my Model Behavior weekly feature. They’re so dang cute.
Before sharing the images, I wanted to mention that one of my favorite female models of the moment is also featured in the series of photos. Chinese model Liu Wenn looks absolutely stunning. She’s currently ranked No. 6 in the fashion world on models.com. You might recognize her from watching the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show . Wen was the first Asian model to walk for the lingerie company. Other female models appearing in the ads are Catherine McNeil, Ashley Smith, Alison Nix and Maria Palm.
