Wednesday night saw three new shows premiering on the major networks. Execs can breathe a sigh of relief that none of them stumbled out of the gates. Whether, they continue to post solid numbers throughout the season, that remains to be seen.
Among the three, Designated Survivor performed the best. The Kiefer Sutherland drama attracted 9.95 million viewers with a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s more than double the average of previous occupant, Nashville, did last season.
ABC’s other new offering Speechless also did solidly with 7.3 million viewers and a 2.0 rating. The fact it retained all of its lead-in from The Goldbergs bodes well for the Minnie Driver comedy.
Over at FOX, the network debut its Lethal Weapon reboot featuring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans taking over the parts Mel Gibson and Danny Glover originated in the film franchise. It premiered to 7.9 million and a 2.2 rating, in line with the 2.4 for Rosewood‘s debut in the same spot last year.
I checked out all three, and surprisingly, enjoyed Speechless the most. The ads don’t do the feel-good comedy justice. It’s quite good. Among the three, I probably won’t give Lethal Weapon another shot. I was bored midway and contemplated abandoning it then. Did you sample any of the new shows? Which ones did you like?
