Of all the ballads Demi Lovato has released throughout her career, this one is hands down my favorite. It’s a beautifully arranged slow jam with heart-wrenching lyrics. Also, she strikes the right balance with regards to her vocals. She shows them off without going overboard and avoids going down her usual path of oversinging on ballads. Job well done Demi!!!
“You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore” is the third track she’s shared off her forthcoming LP, Tell Me You Love Me. The slow burning ballad follows on the heels of the late summer hit, “Sorry Not Sorry” and album title track. The 25-year-old entertainer sings about the struggles of moving on from a deteriorating relationship. She previously told MTV that it wasn’t a diss track but rather a soulful one.
“Sometimes you put out music that you just feel like everyone is going to know who it’s about,” she told MTV. “Headlines are going to come out of it, and it’s like, when you write a song, you’re just being vulnerable, and you’re just writing about something that’s inspiring you, so all the baggage that comes with it is what I’m kind of nervous about.”
Based on all that, all signs point to this ballad being inspired by her breakup with Wilmer Valderrama. Give it a listen below, and weigh in afterward if you think it’s about him or someone else.
