December 21, 2012: What’s Your Take On It?

So the “End of the World” is coming up on this Friday, December 21 and I’m left wondering what everyone out there is thinking. There are so many opinions floating out there about what is going to happen on the 21st that it’s almost impossible to keep up with them all. My work is even having an “End of the World” party after work on the 21st, which may or may not happen depending on said world’s ending or not.

Let’s start with the obvious: Doomsday, the Rapture, End of Days, the Mayan calendar ending, pretty much the world as we know it coming to a compete and utter end Britney Spears’ “Till The World Ends” style. People have talked for years about how the Mayan calendar is coming to the end of a 5125-year-long cycle. There was even a very action packed movie released in 2009 titled 2012 staring John Cusack and Amanda Peet. Will there be huge world shifts? Is the sky going to rain down burning balls of fire? Will the oceans flood most of our lands leaving only a very small portion of the human race alive? Or will the “Big guy upstairs” come down and pass judgement on us all? If this is your cup of tea and personally think the world is going to come to an end, what are your plans? Have you moved to some high remote mountain top so you can live through all the horrible world disasters or are you just going to enjoy the ride?

Now Onto Another Option: Aliens

Yep, good old fashioned green guys are going to come down and rock our little socks off. I think this option is WAY more interesting than the end of the world. At least this way we get to sit on the edge of our seats waiting to see what they have in store for us. Are they here to help us? Do the want to enlighten us with their knowledge? Will they wreak havoc over our world and make us their slaves? Let’s be honest, this world needs a shake up big time and being slaves couldn’t be much worse than working a minimum wage job, right? Do you think Aliens have gender preference or do you think they would be more “anything goes” type beings?

Could It Be A New Age of Spiritual Enlightenment?

I would have to say personally speaking out of all the options out their I believe this one is the most realistic one, if anything. There has been a lot of hype about the “end of the world as we know it” but this could also be the beginning of a new world. “An Apocalypse (Greek: “lifting of the veil” or “revelation”) is a disclosure of something hidden from the majority of mankind in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception, i.e. the veil to be lifted.” — Wikipedia. So yes, an Apocalypse could very well be upon us but in a very different way than we think. Will we magically have something unlock in our brains on the 21st that enlighten us? Will the worlds start moving into a more positive direction with more of a “we” mentality instead of a “me” mentality?

Lastly: Nothing Will Happen

…Other than a lot of people getting drunk shouting “IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!” all night long? I guess we will all just have the wait and see! Sound off below and let us know what you think is going to happen!

Britney Spears – ‘Til The World Ends’

  • Imma keep on dancin’ till the world ends

  • I doubt anything will happen. Of course if the world does end, at least I won’t have to be told that I was wrong. 😉

  • Van-Citay

If anything does happen, I’m going to be spending my last moments at work. FML!

why are people making these assumptions. i mean maybe the mayan 5125 year cycle is our twelve month cycle. there is actual no information that the world will end its all just assumptions being overblown. if there is a cosmic shift then the cycle will start over again.

Both the Doomsday and the New age scenarios are examples of cultural appropriation of indigenous culture. In both cases, none of the proponents have bothered to ask the Mayans themselves how they view the 2012 issue. There is a good article written by one of my friends:

The Mayans are too busy trying to save their land from greedy Canadian mining companies than be concerned about westerners pontificating about 2012.

  • Christian Linkert

That should be “Your” not “You’re”. If the world ends, not a big deal, but if it doesn’t, you don’t want a grammatical error on your page.

Nothing is going to happen. The simple fact that you’re using 2012 as an example tells us readers that you don’t know anything about physical science.
