December 2015: Five Must-See Movies

December is my favourite month of the year and not just because it’s my birth month, or because of Christmas, but because there are usually a bunch of phenomenal movies released in December and with Vancouver’s short and cold winter days there is no better time to hit up the theatres and cram way too much butter soaked popcorn down your throat.

There are some obvious blockbusters and a couple movies you might not have heard of. Check out my picks for must see movies this month.

December 2015 Must See Movies

The Lady in the Van

Opens December 4th

Why you should see it: Based on the true story of a vagrant woman who parks her decrepit van in front of a man’s house and ends of living there for 15 years until her death. This movie looks incredibly funny and Maggie Smith is always outstanding. Between this and the Christmas episode of Downton Abbey I’ll take all the Maggie I can get!

In the Heart of the Sea

Opens December 11th

Why you should see it: Do you know how much weight Thor had to lose for this role? Have you seen that picture floating around? It’s insane. You owe it to him just for that. Also, looks pretty epic… if big whales are your thing.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Opens December 18th

Why you should see it: Honestly the last 3 Star Wars movies sucked ass. Hard. If I never have to watch them again… I won’t complain. That said, I am looking forward to this movie SO MUCH! J.J. does a good sci-fi movie and it looks like the series has finally been brought back to its roots. This movie has been selling out pre-sales all over the place so I’m sure it’s going to just rake in the money over the holidays

Opens December 18th

Why you should see it: Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are so great together. If you don’t already know this, where have you been?

The Big Short

Opens December 23rd

Why you should see it: I talk a lot about all star casts but this movie has some POWERHOUSE actors. Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Marisa Tomei and American Horror Story cutie Finn Wittrock to name a few. A must must must see.
