No one can ever fill Meryl Streep’s shoes, but this is a decent casting decision. Kristin Chenoweth is set to star in the musical stage adaptation of Death Becomes Her, taking over the role of Madeline Ashton fabulously played by Streep in the 1992 black comedy fantasy film.
The Robert Zemeckis-directed film was a commercial success, grossing $149 million worldwide. It won the Academy Award for Visual Effects and earned Meryl a Best Actress Comedy/Musical Golden Globe nomination. The musical is being developed by the Universal Theatrical Group, which is also producing a Bee Gees stage musical.
Death Becomes Her focuses on a pair of rivals (Goldie Hawn and Streep) who drink a magic potion that promises eternal youth, but experience unpleasant side effects when they physically die, becoming walking, talking corpses. Bruce Willis and Isabella Rossellini also starred. Check out the original trailer below.
