‘Dear White People’ Tackles Controversy In Hilarious Fashion

Dear White People is based on the 2014 crowd-funded film of the same name from Justin Simien. The 33-year-old returns to write and direct several episodes of the series.

The satirical series follows escalating racial tensions at a predominantly white prestigious Ivy League college from the perspective of several African American students. Topics of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age will be touched upon.

Logan Browning plays biracial Samantha White who uses her radio show to address racial tensions on campus that often go unaddressed. Due to her public persona, whether she’s ready or not, she becomes the spokeswoman for black student groups.

The series also stars Antoinette Robertson, DeRon Horton, John Patrick Amedori, Ashley Blaine Featherson and Marque Richardson. Brandon P. Bell will reprise his role from the film as Troy Fairbanks, a political science student campaigning to become the first black student president.

Check out the hilarious trailer below. No exaggeration, I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. It’ll be interesting to see if the trailer follows in the footsteps of the first teaser promo. That garnered more dislikes than likes on YouTube. Obviously haters because this looks fantastic.

Dear White People arrives April 28.
