Depressing news today as legendary actor, David Carradine, was found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand. At the age of 72, the 70s star was making movies even today! Mostly known for his roles as Caine in “Kung Fu: The Legend Continues” and of course the infamous Bill in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” movies, his IMDB page is nearly epic in length. Details are slowly being released by the local authorities, but so far it’s been reported that Mr. Carradine was found hanged and naked in his hotel room closet by a housekeeper, days after he failed to show up on set.
So far, it doesn’t look as if there was any outside foul play, and personally, nothing will affect my perception of the iconic thespian, as I grew up watching old episodes of the Kung Fu master. I still remember that cowboy-lookin’ fedora and beat-up tan jacket he’d wear as he walked and reflected upon the meaning of life and villain ass-kicking ;) It was always fun to imagine my years of Karate lessons would one day allow me to pick up one of those boiling hot pots with just my inner-arms… still waiting for that trick to kick in! Hell, I even remember the episode of Profiler he guest-starred on!
Of course, my obsession with all things Tarantino is the real reason for my adoration of the soft-spoken actor. That final scene with Uma will go down in infamy as Carradine owned the exchange with that terrifying, scratchy voice and languid, yet viper-like movement… Okay, a bit over-the-top, but you have to admit, that was one HELL of a final battle scene ;)
Thank you for all your years of work and for sharing your talent with us David Carradine: you will be missed.
