Even in death, David Bowie is making history. The legendary glam rocker broke a Vevo record previously held by Adele.
According to the streaming service which houses 60 Bowie clips, his catalog saw a massive surge after news of his death broke out. On Monday, January 11, he racked up 51 million views. His newest clip, “Lazarus,” generated 11.1 million of those views.
The previous benchmark occurred when Adele released her mammoth “Hello” visual on October 23. That day, her new music video buoyed her entire catalog to 36 million views.
This won’t be the first time David is expected to surpass Adele. Industry experts predict Bowie’s new and final album is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200, pushing Adele’s 25 to runner-up slot. If it does, surprisingly, it’ll be his first No. 1 debut of his career.
