As the world descends upon London for the 2012 Summer Olympics, they’ll be bombarded with David Beckham’s mug on newsstands throughout Heathrow Airport. The professional soccer player is making history and gracing one of the country’s leading fashion magazines. Not just any fashion mag, but British Elle. Beckham will be the first solo male to land the publication’s cover. It’s only fitting he land the woman’s magazine gig since he’s the poster child of metrosexuality.
“He is an icon and Elleis known for featuring icons on its cover,” Lorraine Candy, Editor-in-Chief told the Daily Mail. “This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn’t want to see a picture of one of the world’s most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collector’s issue.”
Though he earns the distinction, he’s technically not the first man to appear on the cover. In November 2003, Ewan McGregor shared the cover with Renee Zellweger and in January 2001 it was Liam Gallagher (Oasis) and Nicole Appleton (All Saints) who shared top billing. The 37-year-old soccer player’s July 2012 issue is due out on May 30.
Until then, you can take a quick sneak peek at the photo shoot. Quick being the operative word. Elle UK released an extremely short behind the scenes video of David showing off his sexiness during the session. Watch it below. Be careful not to blink, because you might miss all the good parts.
