The Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Casts Its Harry Osborn

In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Harry Osborn was played by James Franco. Now it seems director Marc Webb has found his Osborn for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Reportedly, the new Harry beat out stiff competition for the role. Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Douglas Booth (Romeo and Juliet) were just a few names reportedly up for the role. Webb calls this actor “an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast.”

Speaking of cast, Andrew Garfield returns as the masked vigilante as does Emma Stone to reprise her role of Gwen Stacy. For the second installment, Stone has competition for Spidey’s heart. Mary Jane Watson arrives and will be played by Shailene Woodley (The Descendants). Her addition was confirmed previously as was Jamie Foxx’s casting as the villainous Electro. Filming reportedly will begin early 2013 with a tentative release date of May 2, 2014 planned. Find out who’s playing Peter Parker’s best friend below.

The above picture was tweeted by Marc Webb with the caption, “Meet Harry Osborn. @danedehaan.” Dane DeHaan is a 26-year-old American actor best known for his roles in HBO’s In Treatment and the 2012 motion picture, Chronicle. Currently, DeHaan can be seen in theaters playing a Union soldier in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln.

As you all know, DeHaan’s character, Harry Osborn, is very integral to the Spider-Man story. Parker and Osborn meet in college and is the son of tycoon Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin. When his father Norman dies, Harry becomes the new Green Goblin and becomes one of Spider-Man’s most deadliest foes.

Do you think DeHaan is the right choice to play the part? Who would’ve you cast? Will Harry Osborn forever belong to James Franco? Sound off below.
