Battle Of The Blades and Skating With The Stars may be new to North America, but Dancing On Ice had been running in the UK for five years and is about to embark on its sixth series in the New Year. So, why am I so excited about a show that I can’t even watch on my home soil? Because a good friend of mine is going to be one of the new pro skaters added to this year’s series.

His name is Colin Ratushniak. Originally from Brandon, MB, Canada, this male skater got his first big break when he started skating for Disney on Ice. He has appeared in many of their shows including the popular High School Musical. His career has continued to grow being asked to skate for different events and companies and has now, landed one of his biggest gigs of all time. I used to dance with his sister Kayla back when I first started out. I’m so excited for him and can’t wait to see how he does on the show. Did you know that Emma Bunton (aka Baby Spice) is one of the judges? There are some surprise cast members (aka Vanilla Ice?) joining this year’s series and some first time pros. ANGELA RIPPON & SEAN RICE

Angela Rippon is 66 years old, a journalist and newsreader/TV legend. She has had a bit of ballet training which may give her a leg up on some other competitors. Her pro partner is Sean Rice. He is a Canadian gold medalist who has competed and performs with his wife Jodeyne Higgins. This is Sean’s Dancing On Ice debut.

CHLOE MADELEY & MICHAEL ZENEZINI

Chloe Madeley is 23 years old and professional presenter. She is also the daughter of TV’s most successful double act, Richard and Judy Madeley. Apparently, she has some great poses up her sleeve. Her pro partner is Michael Zenezini. He is a French Junior Championship winner. He will definitely bring some continental flair to the competition.

CRAIG MCLAUCHLAN & MARIA FILIPPOV

Craig McLaughlan is 45 years old and an actor on the famous hit show, Neighbours. What are his special skills? Being a good neighbour of course. His pro partner is Maria Filippov. This is Maria’s fifth series with the show and she is hoping to go all the way to the finals with Craig.

DENISE WELCH & MATT EVERS

Denise Welch is 52 years old and is an actress and presenter. Her loud and proud nature is sure to make her a crowd favortie. Her pro partner is Matt Evers. Matt is a Canadian skating champ and a veteran of the show. He has some great previous partners like Zoe Salmon and Bonnie Langford.

DOMINIC CORK & ALEXANDRA SCHAUMAN

Dominic Cork is 39 years old and a professional cricket player. His special skill is the ability to hit sixes. (Its a cricket thing). His pro partner is Alexandra Schauman. This will be her second appearance on the show and is thrilled to have a professional athlete for a partner. She thinks he’s cute too.

ELEN RIVAS & LUKASZ ROZYCKI

Elen Rivas is 35 years old and a model and a WAG. (A WAG is an english footballers wife or girlfriend). Her special skill is tea making. Delicious. Her pro partner Lukasz Rozycki. He is not only a professional skater but an acrobat as well. This is Lukasz’s debut on Dancing on Ice.

JEFF BRAZIER & ISABELLE GAUTHIER

Jeff Brazier is 31 years old and a TV presenter and reality TV superstar. He may be one of the more flexible males in the competition with training in yoga and ballet. His pro partner is Isabelle Gauthier. This Canadian cutie is a figure skating superstar. This will be her debut on Dancing On Ice.

JENNIFER METCALFE & SYLVAIN LONGCHAMBON

Jennifer Metcalfe is 27 years old and an actress known for her role in Hollyoaks. She was a baton twirler when she was a young girl. Will it come in handy? Her pro partner is Sylvain Longchambon. He is another one of the French pros joining the show this year and has been on the National Team for France for 10 years.

JOHNSON BEHARRY VC & JODEYNE HIGGINS

Johnson Beharry VC is 52 years old and a military hero. Even though he is no longer a part of the military, his precision may help him in this competition. His pro partner is Jodeyne Higgins. She is partner and wife of other new comer to the show, Sean Rice. Sounds like some stiff competition.

KERRY KATONA & DANIEL WHISTON

Kerry Katona is 30 years old and most famously known for being a part of Atomic Kitten. She may not know how to skate like a pro but she can sure sing on skates like one. Her pro partner is Daniel Whiston. Daniel has been on the show ever since it began and is thrilled to have Kerry as a partner.

LAURA HAMILTON AND COLIN RATUSHNIAK

Laura Hamilton is 28 years old and a TV presenter for a popular children’s series. Her ability to skate with children (and animals) should be an assist to her on the show. Her pro partner is my buddy Colin Ratushniak. This Canadian is sure to show the UK what he is made of and is sure to make Laura look like a pro.

NADIA SAWALHA & MARK HANRETTY

Nadia Sawalha is a TV presenter and actress known for her roll on Eastenders. She spends her spare time training for marathons so she’ll have lots of endurance for the show. Her pro partner is Mark Hanretty. He is a well established National and International champion sure to bring it this series.

SAM ATTWATER & BRIANNE DELCOURT

Sam Attwater is 24 years old and a former actor from the hit show, Eastenders. He’s warming up his muscles to lift that trophy for the win. His pro partner is Brianne Delcourt. Last year, she skated with Kieron (Hollyoaks) and now, she’s with Sam. Don’t swear Bri, or you’ll get your mouth washed out with soap.

STEVEN ARNOLD & NINA ULANOVA

Steven Arnold is 36 years old and an actor on one of the longest running British soaps of all time, Coronation Street. He thinks he’ll be able to cut up that ice and wow his competition. His pro partner is Nina Ulanova. Nina is the shows Russian import and this is her first appearance on the show.

VANILLA ICE & KATIE STAINSBY

Vanilla Ice is 43 years old and probably most well known for his 90′s rap hit, Ice Ice Baby. He prides himself on being punctual and hopes it will help him get to rehearsals on time. His pro partner is Katie Stainsby. Its her first time on the show but she’s ready to keep up with the cool of Vanilla Ice.

‘COMEDY DAVE’ VITTY & FRANKIE

Comedy Dave is 36 years old and one of Radio 1′s most popular personalities. His talk skills will give him the banter he needs to stay on top on the ice. His pro partner is Frankie. This is Frankie’s fifth series with Dancing On Ice. Her experience on the show is sure to help Dave compete.
