Since The CW gave reprieves to a few on-the-bubble shows like “One Tree Hill”, “Life Unexpected” and “Smallville“, the network only had a couple of hours to fill. “Melrose Place” was the only show not to receive a last minute renewal. The CW is making sure their two new offerings have the best support they can possibly receive. “Hellcats” will air on Wednesday and “Nikita” on Thursday nights right after the CW’s biggest shows- “America’s Next Top Model” and “Vampire Diaries” respectively.
With regards to mid-season, the network only announced one offering- “Shedding for the Wedding“. The reality show will focus on 10 overweight engaged couples who compete for prizes for their upcoming nuptials. Since there are only two new shows, I’ve covered them both. To be perfectly honest, neither looks all that appealing, but you never know.
Think “Bring It On” meets “Bring It On“. Seriously it’s a cheerleading show. The CW is trying to pass this off as a “coming-of-age” story about a pre-law student, Marci, at Lancer University. Marci loses her scholarship, so instead of waiting tables or stripping (like any respectable hot coed. lol), she decides to fall back on her killer dormant gymnastic skillz. She joins the university’s legendary cheerleading squad, The Hellcats. Since this is a CW show, she enters a world that is full of camaraderie, big money and of course backstabbing. The show stars Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical) and Aly Michalka (part of Aly & AJ) and is produced by CW veteran, Tom Welling (Smallville).
I can’t believe they’re remaking this spy assassin thriller again. This must be the millionth re-telling of the Luc Besson French flick. For the CW reboot, international movie star Maggie Q stars as the trained assassin working for a secret US agency known as Division, who faked her execution (she was a troubled teenager on death row). Ultimately the very agency that trained her, betrays her. She then seeks retribution and makes sure her former bosses pay for their crimes. CW president, Dawn Ostroff compares Nikita to watching an action movie every week. Expect to see Maggie Q in lots of skin-revealing outfits to entice the horny teenage boys The CW is now courting.
