Who knew craigslist could be the catalyst for such a moving video. Known widely for their large database of online classifieds, the website partnered with Brownstone Entertainment to create a web series featuring actual craigslist postings and the users behind them. They sought out people from the Los Angeles area who were willing to share their journey through the posting process. Each episode would chronicle what sparked the initial idea and follow it through to a successful (of not so successful) conclusion.
For one of the episodes from Season Two, the documentary series followed Rev. Lorelei Starbuck as she married a gay couple. In 2008, she married over 600 same-sex couples before Prop. 8 restricted marriage to only “a man and a woman”. Now that a federal judge has concluded Prop. 8 was unconstitutional, Lorelei again posts her services to gay couples looking to marry. Enter Mike & Luca, an extremely sweet, loving and attractive couple looking for someone to conduct the wedding ceremony.
No exaggeration here, but this has to be one of the most moving original videos I’ve seen on YouTube. I’m utterly shocked that this was the brainchild of craigslist which sometimes gets a bum rap for some of the unsavory ads posted on their site. You have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by this video. The love Mike and Luca share is incredible, the testimonials by their loved ones heartfelt, and the scene at the end with Luca’s Dad… AMAZING. I could go on and describe what happens, but I want you to experience it the way I did, without many details.

When I first started dating Brian years ago, I was the one who wanted to get married. Fast forward ten years, and now he’s the one wanting the ceremony where I’m the one not. Ironic, eh? After watching this incredibly touching and classy affair, my stance has swayed a bit. You never know, Rev. Lorelei Starbuck might be receiving a call from me soon.
