Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve undoubtedly heard about Guido Barilla’s anti-gay comments. The Barilla pasta brand chairman declared his company would never film an advertisement featuring a homosexual couple. He further added that if gays didn’t like it, they can eat another brand.
Between you and me, how many gays actually eat carbs? No big loss to most of us. Personally though, I love me some lasagna, penne, linguini, spaghetti etc… Who’s with me? A couple of days later, Guido made a half-assed mea culpa but the damage was already done. Don’t mess with the gay mafia.
In the wake of pasta-gate, a few companies including Bertolli pasta have spoken out, reminding their customers that they’ve always been gay-friendly and shared previous commercials featuring same-sex couples. Even a couple of fake brands have popped up poking fun at the situation. One of the best aired on The Conan Show. The ginger host introduced us to Pasta Tolernza di Napoli. Watch the cute parody featuring how gay and straight pasta can co-exist. I’ve also added a couple real commercials as well.
