One network’s trash is another network’s treasure. This was originally developed as a half-hour comedy at HBO before TNT scooped it up and turned it into an hourlong dark comedy series. Based on the first look, that decision appears to have been a wise one. It looks quite promising.
“‘Claws’ is wild and hilarious, and we can’t wait for viewers to immerse themselves in this fascinating world,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “This is a show with great storytelling featuring empowered female characters and brought to life by a diverse group of incredibly talented individuals both in front of and behind the camera.”
Claws takes a look at the life and crimes of five women who work at a Florida hair salon, Nail Artisan of Manatee County Salon, owned by Desna (Niecy Nash). It comes from the creative minds of Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
Joining Nash at the salon are her best friend Jennifer (Jenn Lyon), a tenuously sober ex-party girl raising two children from previous relationships; Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), Desna’s enigmatic driver who also provides security for the salon; Polly (Carrrie Preston), a mild-mannered preppy who recently served time in prison for identity theft; and Virginia (Karrueche Tran), who makes no effort to hide her boredom and impatience with her job.
Also in the cast are Harold Perrineau who plays Nash’s mentally ill twin brother, Dean and Kevin Rankin as her newly-sober husband Bryce. Claws kicks off its 10-episode first season on June 11. Check out the trailer below.
