At long last, Disney finally found someone to wear those iconic glass slippers. At one point Amanda Seyfried and most recently Emma Watson were rumored to take on the titular role in the live-action version of the beloved fairy tale Cinderella. The studio revealed their final pick earlier today. Find out who below.

24-year-old Lily James is the lucky woman to take on the role of the Disney princess. She joins previously-announced cast member Cate Blancett who’s playing her evil step-mother. Production will begin later this year with a 2014 release date in mind. Kenneth Branagh, who opted out of directing the Thor sequel, will helm the project. With him on board, I expect nothing but greatness. He always manages to add this Shakespearean quality to all his films. Probably from doing all those Willy adaptations.

James is best known for her role as Lady Rose McClare on Downton Abbey. Her character on the PBS series is definitely more “upstairs.” She’ll have to channel her Abbey “downstairs” co-stars when she tackles on all of Cinderella’s chores.

What do you think of Lily James taking on the iconic role? Who do you think will be more deliciously evil… Cate Blanchett as the evil step-mother or Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in her Disney film? Sound off below.
