   haha i didn’t think about how similar the videos were until you posted the screen shots! It kind of sucks for new artists that are trying to be creative or artists trying to re-invent themselves…it’s almost like Simpsons Did it, Simpsons Did it…….Gaga did it….Gaga did it…. it’s like she sucked all the creativity out of the industry!

   But the thing is, you are ALLOWED to copy ideas, as long as you own up to it you know what I mean? Gaga does a lot of stuff that Bowie and Madonna did, but she says she gets her inspiration from them.

   I really don’t care who or what her influences were. The video is good, the songs IS good.

   In my opinion, artists can do whatever they want to express themselves – even if they derive some of their inspiration from others.

   I don’t think Christina owes anyone an explanation or has to fess up anything to anyone. She can do whatever the hell she wants LOL.

   I am taking Tommy’s side. I don’t like the video or the song. It’s overworked and nothing is new or creative about it at all. I used to like Christina. This is nothing like how she should be…or used to be. We don’t need another GaGa. I want the old Christina back.

   I’m not the biggest fan of the song either (though I love Christina Aguilera), but this video is nothing like Bad Romance… Has everyone forgotten when Lady Gaga was compared to Christina Aguilera when she was first coming out? When people used to think Gaga WAS Christina? Has everyone forgotten that Christina started pushing these boundaries first when her Dirrty phase kicked in? The sexuality, the outfits, the mentality? Has everyone forgotten that Christina was sporting the platinum hair long before anyone knew who Lady Gaga was? Does anyone not see that rather than copying Bad Romance or Gaga, her look in this video is a mix between her Stripped and Back to Basics phase?

   I love Gaga, too, but to say Christina is ripping Gaga off is like saying Gaga ripped Gwen Stefani off because of the platinum blonde hair, the crazy outfits, and the different music. Let’s just go back to trashing kesha.

   See I have to seriously disagree with you Patrick (SHOCKING! I know). I REALLY tried to like the song, I really did, but I just don’t think it’s her best work at all. It seems like she JUST missed a great track. And then just the whole rip off of the album cover from Erasure (the graphic designer says its his fault but STILL they shoudl be on top of that) and that video has so many bad romance elements in it.

   You have to remember, an homage to a video is when the artist recognizes where they are getting the inspiration from, and does it in respect to. Christina HATES Gaga. She went so far as to say she doesn’t even know if she’s a man or a woman at one point. This is not at homage, this is a rip off. Of Gaga, of Madonna.

   And no, when Gaga came out no one was comparing her to Christina. It was christina’s STRIKINGLY similar look and outift from the MTV awards I believe when she did that wicked genie in a bottle remix…That’s what started the comparison.

   I’m not saying christina is bad, I think she has one of the most amazing voices for sure. I just feel like she’s just trying way too hard to be something she’s not. Like Britney came out first, the Christina tried to do the britney thing. Gaga is doing it, now christina is trying to do that gaga thing. IMHO I think she’s the best when she did Beautiful (duh!) and that whole back to basics album. That’s where she shone I believe. It was somethign no one was doing and it was fun. Hello Candyman…and that video was BRILLIANT!

   This what she’s doing now is really like she’s just trying to grab onto to something that’s popular, and she just misses the mark.

   And i HATE the album cover, for someone that successful with that much money, they should’ve done her mechanical side like a real robot, not a cartoon it just looks like a amature graphic designer did it.

   When Xtina’s “Not Myself Tonight” video dropped last night, the first blog response was: “Wow she killed it! The haters are going to come in 5, 4, 3, 2…”, (now onto your post)

   For starters, normally you’re not too confused….but to file this video as: “Bitch Please”…..all I can say is:
   “Tommy D, Youzza Dizzy B*tch, and are giving Xtina way too much fever”~

   Not Myself Tonight charted this week @ #23 on the Billboard charts, and now that Xtina has released this “stupider video” (to you). Where do you think it will place next week ?

   Maybe #1 ? (I promise you this…it’ll be on the Top -10)

   Now onto the video:
   In this video Xtina channels her “Dirrty” days…chock full of fetishism, including leather, doms, whips, and gag balls, highlighting her sexuality with erotic orgies, sexxy men and girl-on-girl action.

   The video was helmed by Hype Williams, who also directed Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in “Video Phone” last year…which is probably the reason for the similarities in the look and feel that you refer to as being “GaGa’s”, or maybe the producers for the videos booked the same stylist ? You think they come up with this $hit on their own???

   Like Sia Furler tweeted this earlier this week “clothes do not make the artist”.

   Which is why I believe that Xtina kept it real… especially with the bondage and fetish wear, that is increasingly prevalent across the spectrum in pop music and pop culture at this time. Need a few references ? Don’t believe me? Check out Usher’s “Daddy’s Home Video ft. Nicki Minaj” or the finger cuffs on Adam Lambert’s album cover in Europe. Is that GaGa inspired also…

   And if we are focusing on the aesthetic view of the “Not Myself Tonight” video…let’s just say it is gorgeous. Hype Williams, one of our most celebrated music video directors, gives the video a crisp, clean, colorful look that is arresting. “Not Myself Tonight” shows us a Christina Aguilera that is beautiful, highly sexual, a bit fearless, and vocally matched by very few in the industry.

   In short….what I am saying is…”Keep it cute….or put it on mute”.

   If this video had been reviewed by: In Living Color’s “Men on Art”, Blaine Edwards and Anton Mary-Weather. I think they would have given it: “Two-Snaps-Up and in a Circle” !

    Well said Jared, Russ & Gemini. EXACTLY. The thing that irritates me is this crowning Gaga queen of the entire music industry after only a couple years in the industry. She’s done some amazing stuff, but come on, there are SO MANY influential artists before her. If I were Christina, I’d be irritated with the “bow down to Gaga” mentality that has taken place over the past year as well, and for people to continuously compare her to other people (Britney, Gaga,)…like she says….”…and if you don’t like it Fuck you.”

    And yeah, like Gemini says, it’s not like Christina made the video herself…same producer as Bad Romance.

    The video is hot. People just love to hate on Christina.

    Oh god, your cutesy rhymes and cheeky references are just too much I gagged a little.

    Yes I know Hype directed this video, and originally I was going to mention that maybe it’s his fault that everything is so similar BUT THEN when I clicked on VEVO this morning, there was an intro clip from Christina saying that this video is EXACTLY how shes feeling and blah blah. So, this clearly had to be her concept, and her feelings right? She must have had final approval. Unless she’s completely sacrificing her artistic credibility for that of a director who will do whatever he or she wants.

    She definitely is not feeling like herself then.

    And charts are pointless in my opinion, that idiot Kesha has a #1 album, I lost all faith in the charts as soon as that happened.

    If you all READ what I wrote, I don’t HATE Christina like at all. I think she is incredibly talented, one of the best voices in a logn time. BUT she is missing the mark completely on this one.

    5 bux says he next single will be a power ballad and it’s going to be amazing. I know how she works.

    And even if it WAS the same director or producer of both videos, I would MAKE SURE he didn’t use the same ideas as a previous video. But that’s just me…

    Heres the thing. I DO think it is similar to Bad romance, and That is one of the first things I thought of when I saw the video. I do think the video has too many little similarities that confirm (to me) that this wasnt an accident.

    Also, I agree that GaGa (even though i love her with a BURNING passion) shouldnt be credited with the ideas. I love Her to death, but She didnt come first. I know Tommy and Patrick both agree on this point, but People need to realize that she’s not the original. People (like Bowie and Madonna) came before her.

    That said, I HATE the video. Christina is an amazing singer, but She doesnt have to portray herself like this. I get that the video is about that (portraying someone your not), but I think she could have done it in a less sluttier way.

    I’m not as concerned about the copycat issue (though nearly every set-up or look in the whole video screams Gaga, Britney, Madonna, and Gwen Stefani to me) as I am about the fact that she’s realized she’s never going to release anything on the same level as Stripped, and so she’s continuously trying to assure us that she’s “Still Dirrty” or “more sexual now that she’s a mom” – whatever.

    Every part of this feels forced and overdone, and really not genuine. What really sucks is that it’s really not sexy – everything looks like it was sterilized before they shot the video.

    I feel like the whole kink/s&n thing is totally vanilla and like she probably has no idea what an orgy really looks like.

    So again, even if parts of it look like they were literally story boarded using Bad Romance as influence, if the song and video were any good I wouldn’t mind…but the song is a total mess (can anyone tell me what the melody is? What about where to find the chorus?) And why does her being ‘not herself’ seem to look exactly like what her and everyone else has been doing for years and years?

    From someone who is lauded as one of our generations greatest vocalists, it’s a let down when the final product lacks creativity and innovation.

    Also, to whoever mentioned that the song debuted at #23, fuck off. That’s total shit! Someone of Christina’s stature, who hasn’t released a new studio album in what, 3 or 4 years? Her comeback single needed to be number one right away. I heard it’s already down into the 50′s on iTunes, and after 2 weeks? Again, for someone like Christina, that is brutal. I wouldn’t be surprised if they release another single before the album comes out, or if they bump up the album’s release date.

    GET OVER IT PEOPLE! all artists take inspiration from one another in some relative shape or form. since it’s due to the fact that the brain can NOT create something it hasnt seen or heard before in some shape or form. both women are visual and vocal performers in their own right. And besides, lets face it, Christina’s voice is what sets her apart from the crowd, and Gaga’s performance art is what sets her apart from everybody else.

Had I been Christina working on this, I would have stopped every 10 minutes, looked over at Hype and said “Wait a minute–didn’t you do this 6 months ago in Gaga’s video??” How could she not have seen this?     I think what we’re failing to see here is that maybe that’s the whole point of the video… to blatantly copy these iconic artists and imagery. I mean look at how much attention it’s getting. I’m not saying I totally love the video or the song (mind you there’s a remix I love) but with all the buzz it’s getting, you must admit it’s kinda brilliant. After all there’s no such thing as bad press nowadays. Isn’t that what the song is about? She’s not herself tonight, she’s gaga, madonna, etc.

    I’m so over the fact that from now on whenever anybody does something racey and different or fashion that it’s always going to be “copying GaGa” like she invented fashion herself.

    Gaga isn’t even “Gaga.” She’s Stefani Germanotta and look what she’s wearing in videos of her performing just before “Gaga” all started- she was about as fashionable as Martha Stewart.

    To me there’s no comparison, Lady Gaga wins by a landslide.
    And it’s not even because I think Lady Gaga is so great (even though I do), it’s because Christina’s video, feels dated and tired. Even though it has elements of Gaga’s video it’s completely different. Christina year after year goes after that overt sexuality borderline raunchy, that in 2010 feels tiring and no longer shocking or creative. While Lady Gaga with her anorexic white monsters and bizzare auction is completely fresh and creative. Christina hasn’t stepped up her game in several years and Gaga is ahead of the game. On top of borrowing several elements blatently from Gaga’s video, makes Christina look even worse. I mean honestly, to not notice the likeliness between the two is to be blind.
    It’s a shame, because Christina has an amazing voice (As much as I prefer Gaga’s music and “sound”, Christina’s voice is far better), but her creativey is all washed up, and it just feels like her time to go. And her song just kind of sucks.
    Sorry X-tina, but maybe it’s time to take your final bow.

    Wow if only any of you knew what you were talking about. Look up Madonna’s video Express Yourself, THAT is where Christina got her inspiration, and it’s her PAYING HOMAGE to Madonna, who EVERYONE is copying, and has been for the last few decades. Christina has a voice that can’t be matched by anyone of today, “the little girl with the big voice.”
    And when Christina is asked about her inspiration she says Etta James and Julie Andrews from The Sound of Music, and the Golden Age of Hollywood. When Gaga is asked.. “by my friends and NYC, David Bowie, media culture and obsession with fame”… I am sorry Gaga fans but that just sounds pathetic. Inspired by fame… she is just doing this stuff to grab attention and get publicity. In poker face she wore those silly glasses that are flashing Pop Culture… ugh.

Surely in this day it’s hard to be original at all without getting half naked and dancing like a whore.
    My biggest problem with Gaga is that she won’t show off her talent, she can play the piano and sing (kind of..better than a lot of people anyways) but she doesn’t show it off. Her songwriting skills are basically crap, Speechless was about her dad and that’s about as deep as she goes, the rest are… “eh”. Christina’s Stripped days showed us that she was truly spectacular and until Gaga can come out with a real ballad or show some true talent, Christina will ALWAYS be better in my book.

    Christina’s video is retarded. I used to like her way back in the day but she goes through too many phases. I still don’t think she knows who she is as an artist. Gaga on the other hand has always been just that- Gaga. And I love her to death for stepping out and being different. Whether or not copying is allowed I don’t care. why would you copy?     Lady gaga has only been prevalent in pop culture for a couple of years, so you don’t know that Gaga has always been Gaga. She wasn’t even able to afford to create her crazy outfits til she hit it big. As for Christina going through phases, it’s always peeved me when the public criticized artists for changing their look or music. Life and art is about progression and evolution. Why would anyone want to, and why would you want anyone to stay stuck in a phase for the rest of their career or life? I find it refreshing when an artist I like can reinvent him or herself to further their own being and creativity, take for example Rihanna who has gone through her own phases from sweet Barbados girl to Glam to Rocker Glam.

    they are both copying madonna’s human nature and express yourself and yet, madonna out does both especially compare to the time the videos were made! i guess someone has to entertain us after her and they’re both ok

    Honestly, you’re all missing the point. I don’t like pop music, but Lady GaGa is truly innovative, whether or not she’s a fame whore. She admits where her inspirations come from, unlike Christina who just bullshits and bashes GaGa. She’s tired, just like Katy Perry, who also bashes GaGa. Sure GaGa has only been around a couple years, but she’s already had 6 #1 hits and I think her debut album even went diamond recently. I don’t think even Madonna has done that. She’ll be the most famous pop star in a few years, and to shame those kids who thought she’d only last a week. Get over it.

    whatever you haters say, this song is the bomb, also those guys who say she’s a mom and shouldn’t make such vidz bla bla bla (what will her son say when he sees them) are forgetting Madonna made racier videos, some of which were banned from MTV. Not forgetting she’s the best vocalist of her generation! So if you don’t like it, FUCK YOU!!!

    in fact this video is more like Madonna’s Express Yourself, and I wonder why noone is bashing GaGa for copying Madonna’s style too, as if she’s so original!!! The only thing that makes her original is the wierd outfits and themes in her video!

    loving this song. and the guy in the video is sexy. and i love her spike heels. her gwen-like hair do was sexy too.

    anyways, i think for people to say someone copied someone is really ignorant because fashion and trends evolve for everyone at the same time…producers and creative staff are working in the same era so its going to look similar.

    the only time an artist needs to get a slap on the wrist is when they dis a particular artist for something then they go and do it themselves.

    that being said, love the song and video regardless of what inspired it.
