Christina Aguilera’s much-ballyhooed guest arc on Nashville begins Wednesday. If you’ve watched any of the numerous promos, you’ve undoubtedly heard Xtina’s signature powerhouse vocals on display. After all, she plays a pop superstar named Jade St. John. Not much of a stretch.
“The Real Thing” is one of two new tracks the 34-year-old singer is releasing to coincide with her appearance on the ABC drama. If you were expecting The Voice mentor to go full out country, you’re out of luck. It’s actually a bit of everything. There are shades of rock, pop, cabaret and a tinge of country.
Love Christina, but it doesn’t exactly scream ‘hit.’ Don’t get me wrong. It’s not bad but I had far higher expectations. I’m hoping her second offering, the ballad “Shotgun,” is more to my liking. Give “The Real Thing” a listen below and weigh in afterward.
