Did you watch Lifetime’s six-part Lifetime documentary, Surviving R. Kelly, detailing sexual abuse allegations against singer R. Kelly? I did and simply put, I have no words. I can’t believe the 52-year-old singer got away with it for so many years.
Just last week, Lady Gaga broke her silence about R. Kelly and revealed she was removing their collaboration “Do What U Want” from streaming services. Another high-profile singer, Celine Dion, is also reportedly doing the same with her duet with R. Kelly.
“I’m Your Angel” was released back in 1998 and claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. It also became a top 10 hit in various European countries. The ballad was certified platinum in the US and earned a Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals nomination at the 41st Grammys for Dion and Kelly.
What are your thoughts on artists pulling their work from streaming services in the wake of the documentary. I’m torn on this. I love both “Do What U Want” and “I’m Your Angel” and other R. Kelly featured tracks, but there’s no denying he’s a monster that preyed on young girls including the late Aaliyah. I can’t help but have an icky feeling whenever I hear his tracks now.
