Julie Chen Reveals ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ Is Coming This Winter

Celebrity Big Brother has existed in the United Kingdom since 2001. Numerous personalities from the United States have even appeared on it including Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt, Brandi Glanville, Gary Busey, Janice Dickinson, Perez Hilton and Michelle Visage to name a few. At long last, a celebrity edition of US Big Brother is coming to CBS. Julie Chen made the glorious announcement on the Thursday episode of BB19. It’s set to arrive winter 2018.

“Big Brother has been dominating pop culture throughout its 19 seasons, and it is exciting to grow the franchise with the first-ever celebrity edition in the U.S.,” executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan said in a statement. “Celebrities will be under the watchful eye of the Big Brother cameras, facing the classic game elements, and of course new twists in this special winter event.”

What caliber of celebrities can we expect to enter the house? I’d say anyone who’s participated on Celebrity Apprentice, Dancing With The Stars or any celebrity edition of a reality series is fair game. Chen is very realistic about it and states, casting will be in the vein of ABC’s dancing competition.

“We’re being realistic. It’s not going to be all Oscar winners. But maybe we’ll have someone who won an Oscar decades ago,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “Whoever casts Dancing With the Stars does an amazing job. They don’t always get all household names, but some people kind of reinvent themselves and suddenly I see that person all over the tabloids. Sometimes these types of shows, like in the U.K. [version], some of the washed-up names that went into it got a new lease on life. And the big names that went in, it was a little bit too up close and personal. Those people did themselves in with letting the public see who they really are.”

I’m glad CBS opted for this instead of a second season of Big Brother OTT. Hopefully, the series will air on the network and not their streaming service. That would suck if it did.

Are you excited Celebrity Big Brother is finally coming? Do you have any predictions which celebrities will join? I’m assuming the length of time will be a fraction of what regular houseguests endure. I can’t see any celebrity, even a D-list one, being cut off from the world for longer than a month. With the absolute train-wreck that BB 19 has been, this step was necessary to keep the series relevant. I with them luck.
