First Netflix reunited the Full House gang for Fuller House. NBC and ABC then followed with revivals of Will & Grace and Roseanne. Now it’s the eye network’s turn to rummage through its vault. CBS just announced the classic hit show Murphy Brown is coming back with Candice Bergen reprising the titular role. She will also serve as co-executive producer alongside Diane English.
The revival received a 13 episode commitment and is scheduled to premiere during the 2018-2019 television season. According to the press release, the show “will return to a world of cable news, social media, fake news and a very different political and cultural climate.”
Murphy Brown received 62 Emmy nominations (with 18 wins), 15 Golden Globe nominations (with three wins), three Screen Actors Guild Awards, five Directors Guild nominations (with two wins) and four Writers Guild nominations (with two wins) during the show’s original 10-year run from 1988 to 1998. Bergen, herself, won five Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of the investigative journalist and TV anchor. At one point, Bergen was so tired of winning she decided to take herself out of the running.
