CBS Finds Its Leading Man For ‘Magnum P.I.’ Reboot

Poor Jay Hernandez. I don’t think the 40-year-old actor knows what he’s getting himself into. He faces an uphill battle to win over fans of the original series.

Hernandez just signed on to star in the Magnum P.I. reboot for CBS. He’ll play Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. Let’s hope he can grow a mustache as fierce as Tom Selleck.

Jay’s recent credits include Suicide Squad, Bad Moms and a guest arc on the final season of Scandal. He’s also known for starring in Crazy/Beautiful opposite Kristen Dunst.

While I like Hernandez, I sorta wish CBS would’ve copied ABC. A couple years back, the alphabet network was also developing a Magnum P.I. reboot but with Magnum’s daughter at the center of the show. I think that would’ve been a fresher approach. Don’t you think?

Magnum P.I. isn’t the only reboot the eye network is developing for next season. There’s also one for Cagney and Lacey, an adaptation of LA Confidential and the Murphy Brown revival with Candice Bergen attached.

Do you think Hernandez has the right stuff to follow in Selleck’s footsteps? Weigh in below.
