CBS Finds Its Leads For ‘Cagney & Lacey’ Reboot

Both Magnum P.I. and Cagney & Lacey are getting reboot treatments over at CBS. For the former, the eye network cast Jay Hernandez to take over for Tom Selleck. With regards to the latter, the two ladies stepping into Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly’s shoes have been announced.

Just days after it was revealed Sarah Drew was leaving Grey’s Anatomy after a nine-year run, the 37-year-old actress bounces back with a new gig. She’s set to play Cagney, the easygoing LAPD detective and protégée of Lacey. Speaking of Lacey, Blindspot star Michelle Hurd gets to play the straightforward veteran detective.

Penned by Bridget Carpenter (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights), the pilot moves the action from New York to Los Angeles, but keeps the central concept of two female police detectives teaming up to keep the streets safe. The original ran on CBS from 1982 to 1988. For six consecutive years, one of the two lead actresses won the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama (four wins for Daly, two for Gless).

What do you think of the new dynamic duo? Do you think Cagney & Lacey will wow viewers once again? Weigh in below.
