Someone over at the NFL sure loves Carrie Underwood. The 34-year-old country superstar has delivered the theme song for Sunday Night Football for five years now. Her latest is anthemic as her other offerings. Underwood talks below about her uplifting new tune, “The Champion.”
“When we were writing ‘The Champion,’ our main focus was to celebrate athletes at the top of their game, but we also wanted the song to resonate with people in their everyday lives. We hope the lyrics will inspire people to push themselves beyond their limits to conquer anything they are trying to accomplish or overcome. There’s a champion in every single one of us!” says Carrie.
For the first time ever in Underwood’s career, she teams up with an urban artist for a single. Ludacris pops up to explain the meaning for every letter of the title: C is for courage, H is for hurt, A is for attitude, M is for motivation, P is for perseverance, I is for innovation, O is for optimism, and N is for necessary.
Not only will “The Champion” serve as the theme for the NFL, but NBC plans to use it for their coverage of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The accompanying music video will premiere during the network’s coverage of Super Bowl LII. Give the single a listen below.
