As every country fan in western Canada knows, the Canadian Country Music Awards are coming to Vancouver this September, and this year’s awards are already ramping up to be one of the best. Western Canada is definitely known for their country music fans, largely due to the migration of Alberta and Saskatchewan folk making their way out to BC to partake in milder weather, yet still live the down-home life. I am no exception, as I’m proudly from Regina, and now happy to Vancouver home.
A few posts from the Homorazzi cast have included mention of country music artists, thanks to Donovan’s article for breakout country artist Jessie James, rocking the music world at just 19. Just this last week and soon to be released, Patrick caught up with Jessie and had the opportunity to chat with her. Unfortunately I was unavailable to talk to her, and for that my heart is a little achy-breaky.
On to the goods though! For all you other country-lovers out there, the 2009 CCMAs have a stellar line-up, and it’s still two months out! Some of the acts locked in to perform include Terri Clark, Doc Walker, Johnny Reid, Jessie Farrell, George Canyon, local celebrity Aaron Pritchett and country superstar Martina McBride. It’s going to be bigger than Merritt Mountain Musicfest, all three days packed into one!
For all you local Vancouverites that remember Aaron’s last show out at Rooster’s in Pitt Meadows (yes, I was thankfully there), the boy knows how to rock the stage and rally a crowd. What better welcome-home performance than at the CCMAs in Vancouver! I will admit I was tentative about the awards being held at GM Place, but after catching the JUNO Awards and watching Doc Walker accept his award for Country Recording of the Year for Beautiful Life, I was sold on the venue. The opportunity for thousands of collective country fans to come together and celebrate the last year of country music in all its glory at GM Place; fan-countryjam-tastic!
