Camila Cabello kicked off her post Fifth Harmony career with “Crying In The Club.” The Sia-penned number was supposed to be the lead cut off her debut album, The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving., but it underperformed. So badly, it won’t even appear on the LP anymore.
Thankfully for Cabello, the promotional single “Havana” started to gain momentum. The 20-year-old singer has a bona fide hit on her hands with the Pharrell-produced number. “Havana,” which she co-wrote, just cracked the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 and poised to climb even higher on the charts.
As a result of the single’s success, Cabello and her team decided to delay the release of her album to craft a new strategy. Wise choice. “Havana” is on fiyah, while “Crying In The Club,” which was alright, just sounded too much like Camila was imitating Sia.
The accompanying visual for “Havana” just dropped and it’s a cinematic offering. Clocking in at over seven minutes, the clip finds Cabello taking on three roles- a dramatic telenovela actress, nerdy loner and a glamorous movie star. Check out the Dave Meyers-directed clip below.
“After a hilarious telenovela-inspired dream sequence, the visual plays out like a mini-movie featuring appearances by Latin superstars Lele Pons and LeJuan James alongside the multiplatinum certified pop powerhouse. Camila goes from watching the action play out in a movie theater to scorching a stage in Havana joined by a crooning Young Thug. Directed by Dave Meyers, it’s an event-sized production worthy of the track’s runaway success around the globe!”
