Bruno Mars Is My Current Music Obsession

If you haven’t listened to Bruno Mars’ debut CD “Doo-Wops & Hooligans“, what are you waiting for? Hands down, it’s one of the best CDs of 2010. I often get teased by my fellow cast members, that all I write about are female singers. Bucking that trend, I thought I’d highlight my current musical obsession, Bruno Mars. The 25-year-old is riding high with his current wave of success. Three of his songs have been featured on “Glee“, he currently occupies two of the top ten spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 and last week, he earned seven nominations at the 53rd Grammy Awards. All well deserved, I might add.

You’ve undoubtedly heard his songs on the radio, but probably know little or nothing about the hitmaker. If Maxwell and Jason Mraz had a love child, Bruno Mars would be him. He’s smooth, soulful and folky all wrapped up in one talented artist. Born Peter Gene Hernandez, he grew up in Hawaii until he moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating high school. Bruno was a nickname given to him by his father when he was a baby. He his of Puerto Rican and Filipino (represent, represent) descent.

Before scoring Billboard hits, Bruno was co-writing hit songs. He worked on Flo Rida’s “Right Round” and Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You”. This man seriously has the Midas Touch right now. His collaborations with B.o.B. on “Nothin On You” and Travie McCoy on “Billionaire” both became huge Top 10 hits before he scored his first charttopper with “Just The Way You Are“.

Ever since I bought his album, I’ve had it on heavy rotation on my iTunes. These days, it’s rare for me to listen to full albums more than once. I’m much more of a shuffle singles playlist music listener. If I was asked to pick my favorite tracks from the album, I would have a very difficult time. Besides his two hit singles “Grenade” and “Just The Way You Are“, I’m obsessed with “Marry You“, which was featured on Glee, “Talking To The Moon“, “Our First Time” and “Count On Me“. His album could realistically have 4-5 hit singles. Check out his CD, and I promise you that you won’t be disappointed. For a limited time, you can purchase it for only $5.99 on Amazon.com. You can’t really argue with that low price. I really hope he goes on tour to support the album, you can bet I’d be there in a heartbeat.
