Girlboss is inspired by the New York Times best-selling book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, founder of the fashion brand Nasty Gal. In 2016, she was named one of the richest self-made women in the world by Forbes. However by November 2016, her company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
The series centers on Sophia (Britt Robertson), who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and, by the age of 28, had built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. The series was created by and executive produced by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect 1& 2, 30 Rock). Joining Cannon on showrunning duties are Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, of Denver & Delilah, Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Amoruso.
Britt is absolutely captivating as the ambitious fashionista. “Go ahead, underestimate me,” she taunts vintage store employee played by Jim Rash (Community). “I’ve got it all figured out.”
Joining Robertson in the series are Ellie Reed (Annie), Alphonso McAuley (Dax), Johnny Simmons (Shane) and Dean Norris (Jay). Rupaul also makes an appearance. The first season, consisting of 13 episodes, of Girlboss arrives on Netflix on April 21. Check out the trailer below.
