Friday night, Tyrell and I checked out the Britney Spears Femme Fatale concert here in Vancouver (which was amazing), but we never got as close as the handful of fans that spent $1,000 to get a VIP package that included a meet & greet with Brit before the show. One of the fans (Clay) asked for a hug while beside Britney for his photo, but she declined. Here’s how it happened in Clay’s words :

“I was the first in, so they didn’t tell me we weren’t allowed to ask. I asked her and she froze up, she seemed scared. She said ‘Um… erm,,, uhhh,’ and then looked at Larry. He shook his head no. BUT I DONT CARE. IT WAS AMAZING ANYWAYS. I told her I loved her, and she said ‘Awwwwee, thank you!’ and said “This tour book is for you! Enjoy the show!” It was surreal. I still cannot believe it. In shock.”

Do you think she should have given him a hug?

That’s Clay with Britney, above left. I don’t know what the big deal is in giving someone a hug. It’s like, “Get over yourself, you know?” That said, I’m sure there are some crazies out there that have freaked Britney out in the past by crossing the line – so this could be a security measure. Also, it could just be that they wanted to ensure nothing happened to her hair, makeup, or costume since she wasn’t wearing a robe like she has at meet & greets in previous cities. Who knows. (Sidenote: I met her makeup artist for the tour over the weekend when he came into my store!).

Since the concert, a few fans that watched her in Portland have posted pics of Britney hugging them (wearing a robe), so I guess it’s not a set rule that she doesn’t hug.

What do you think? If someone spends $1,000 on on your concert, should they get a hug or is that asking too much? I guess you’ll never catch Britney Spears wearing a “Free Hugs” t-shirt. LOL.
