Listen To Britney Spears’ New Ballad ‘Perfume’

Typically, ballads and Britney Spears don’t go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong, but this one is in her wheelhouse. I’m a little embarrassed to say this, but “Everytime” is not only one of my favorite slow jams from her but also in general. Cue head nod of shame 😉

The 31-year-old previously called “Perfume” her favorite song off her upcoming eighth studio album Britney Jean. Brit co-wrote the track with Sia and on producing duties. She premiered the track on her Facebook today. I’m not completely blown away by it at first listen, but I can see it being a slow burn. However, I will say I like it better than Gaga’s new ballad “Dope.” Check it out below and decide if it’s a worthy followup to “Work Bitch.”

“‘Perfume’ is incredibly special to me because it hits close to home, and I think the story is relatable to everyone,” Spears recently told E!. “Everyone’s been through an insecure moment in a relationship that’s left them vulnerable and I think this song captures that.”

This is why I love Britney. Her raw beautiful voice is amazing this. We want more songs like this in Britney Jean. Work Bitch was good but let’s face it, you were barely singing it

  • Britney has such flop management. A lot of her better songs, especially ones that showcase her lower vocal abilities, are rejected by her team. I’m so glad this song was released. I want more like it in the future!

  • Russell

Sia was a good choice! Britney needs more strong influences like her.

As much as I do like this song, I don’t know why the Gaga line was added in the end. This “bash Gaga” or “doubt Gaga” train has got to stop. Its getting relentless, mean, and pathetic. Every fucking gay in our culture has experienced being put down, fucked over, or humiliated, so I don’t know why the hell it is remotely accepted to do that to someone else, ESPECIALLY someone who despite you buying into the media’s constant bullshit lies to make you believe otherwise, has done NOTHING but promote our community over and over and over and over again. This is piss poor fucking journalism. Take your fucking sassy attitude and put it in the dumpster. This is absolute trash, unfair, and immature. Lady Gaga has worked harder than any other bitch in this industry, and you can not like her or her music, but STOP THIS SHADY behind the keyboard cutting at her. Its insulting. I am sick and tired of being ridiculed for being a Gaga fan and being called a “crazy little monster”. I am sick of you harassing Gaga and imaging the situation to help her fail. It is wrong. Think about this. Its fucking insane.

  • Nickolas

I’m also sending this link to and I hope every fan of Gaga’s will show support for her and show distaste toward your bias. I am reporting you to the site for bias and ridicule. It has got to stop. Be a normal person and say this stuff behind people’s backs, Donovan. It’s completely unnecessary for you to use your platform to side swipe other artists. Lady Gaga has NOTHING to do with Britney Spears’ new song (which is also fantastic) so I have no clue why you mentioned her. Such sexism. ugh.

  • Andy

Nikolas- I get a feeling you’re taking out your anger on Donovan and none of it was warranted. He was simply stating his opinion and nothing else. He did not bash Gaga or the fandom in the least. He is entitled to his own opinion as you are. (Did he even say he didn’t like it? He just said he preferred Perfume over Dope.)

Anyways, good song. Still like Everytime more, but this will be a grower.

    @ Nikolas

Well if you would not act like a “crazy little monster” no one would think that about you ; ) Gaga has a strong voice but she doesn’t really use her voice to shine instead she tries to make crazy shitty stuff and says its art when its NOT.

  • André Dias

It’s good, but I was expecting more from a collaboration with Sia…
Yeah, I’m on that “slow burner” page too. My first listen was kind of underwhelming but now on a second, third, forth and so on listen, it kind of sticks to you. It’s sexy, vulnerable. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  • DJB

In this day and age, I say wait until you hear it live. A sound engineer can do wonders with a voice. I would pick any of the songs from Katy Perry’s CD over this one any day of the week!

  • Kyle

Reality is Britney is writing this album for here die hard fans! Slow burner or not, its emotional and showcases Britney’s vulnerability.

  • Benny

Yea cause Britney totally writes her own music.

  • Bitches

@Nickolas, are you having a breakdown? Now it’s proven that Gaga’s followers are crazy!! As in crazy little MONSTER!!

  • jolincas

    @ Benny
In case you didn’t know, Britney wrote Everytime with little help from a friend.
She has write or cowrite many of her songs, and unlike many other artists out there, she never takes cowriter credit for something she only add a word to. Many songwriters who have write for her have said that.

  • jolincas

Everytime is also one of my favorite ballads at all.
I love Perfume. And it’s so honest and relatable, she has been through the ups and downs of love, everyone who has been there can relate. She is not gonna sing about the undying first love, right?
