Britney Spears’ ‘Blackout’ Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Britney Spears released Blackout ten years ago today. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, it’s worth revisiting her fifth studio album.

Blackout was recorded during Spears’ much-publicized personal struggles, including several instances of erratic behavior and her divorce from Kevin Federline. The album only sold a fraction of what her previous efforts did, moving 3.1 million worldwide and 1 million domestically. It’s Spears’ first studio album not to debut at number one in the United States.

Three official singles were released including “Gimme More” which peaked at No. 3. “Piece Of Me” and “Break The Ice” topped out at No. 18 and No. 43 respectively.

Unlike her previous album, Spears didn’t heavily promote Blackout. Her only televised appearance for Blackout was the universally panned performance of “Gimme More” at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

Check out all the music videos released during this era below. I also included “Radar” which originally appeared on Blackout but wasn’t officially released as a single until it was included on the deluxe edition of her next album, Circus. Be sure to weigh in afterward on your favorite cuts from the LP.
