Brandy hasn’t had a platinum-selling album since 2002′s “Full Moon“. She released two CDs after that, “Afrodisiac” and “Human“, both of which were commercial bombs. She’s hoping her upcoming “Two Eleven” will fare much better. Based on the first official single, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
On paper, she has all the right ingredients. She enlisted Bangladesh (Rihanna) and Sean Garrett (Britney Spears) to produce the track and hired famed Hype Williams to direct the music video. The 33-year-old singer even talked Chris Brown into performing on the track. Even with all that, I don’t think “Put It Down” is going to be a hit, which is a shame, because Brandy looks fierce and gorgeous in the clip.
The R&B diva is seen singing on the hood of a white Ferrari, shaking her thang in front of colorful graffiti backgrounds and leading a quartet of sassy backup dancers. It wouldn’t be a music video these days if a product placement wasn’t in sight. The offender in this case… Sony VAIO laptop. During one scene, it seems like she’s editing her own music video. As if ;) Watch Brandy & Brown’s collaboration below.
What do you think? Do you think this was a wise choice as the first single from her upcoming album? Was it a smart move to enlist Chris Brown for “Put It Down“? Sound off below.
