Pitting ABC comedy Boy Meets World to R&B trio TLC is as odd as comparing the proverbial apple to orange, but both reached pop culture heights in the 1990s and that’s good enough for me ;) Plus, both are making comebacks in the near future.
Social media went crazy yesterday when it was revealed Disney was planning a sequel to the popular 90s TGIF sitcom. Switching things up, the new show will be called Girl Meets World and revolve around a 13-year-old girl named Riley Matthews. With the show focusing on a new character, does this mean beloved characters from the past won’t be included? Wrong. Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) are coming back and have a 14-year-old son. As fate would have it, Cory is now a grade seven history teacher, specifically Riley’s. Cory is the new Mr. Feeny.
Now onto TLC news. Tionne Watkins and Rozonda Thomas a.k.a. T-Boz and Chilli respectively, recently confirmed they are working on a new album. It’ll be the first full-length new offering since 2002′s 3D and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ death. They also revealed they had hopes of going on tour to promote the album and feature Lopes in hologram form during the concerts. The surviving two members are also working on a biopic for VH1, which they’re both producing and casting. Here’s what T-Boz revealed about their new album.
“We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time,” explained T-Boz in an interview with BBC. “When that stops working, maybe we’ll hang up the towel, but that still works. We have to get into the studio and start feeling how we feel. You have to find yourself first and then you find the path and then you have an album before you know it.”
Whose return are you most excited for? Cory and Topanga or TLC? If neither float your boat, what show or group from the 90s are you hoping make a comeback in the near future. Sound off below.
