Today the Atlanta Pride Committee announced that beatboxing American Idol 6 runner-up Blake Lewis will be headlining the entertainment line-up at this year’s festivities. Blake is set to perform on the Coca-Cola Stage on Sunday November 1, 2009. This will mark the 39th anniversary for the Atlanta Pride Festival.
Atlanta Pride event manager, J. Shefield, says “We think Blake’s diverse fan base will draw some new people to the park on Sunday,” This isn’t the first time Blake has shown his support for gay rights. He was one of the hundreds of celebrities that participated in Adam Bouska’s NOH8 campaign opposing Proposition 8. If you’re in the ATL area, I would highly recommend going down to check out the free show.
Blake Lewis is getting ready to drop his sophomore album, Heartbreak On Vinyl which drops on October 6, 2009. He calls the new album full of electro-pop goodness. Even though I’m glad Jordin Sparks won American Idol that year, I was a big fan of Blake’s performances on the show. From his debut album, I was obsessed with the David Aude remix of “How Many Words”. I wore that song out for a good month on my iTunes playlist.
I love it when musicians and celebrities who I would never think of show up and perform at LGBT events. Good on you Blake for showing your support. This little homo thanks you.
