Advance sales for Disney-Marvel’s Black Panther launched Monday night after a national spot aired during the telecast of the College Football Playoff National Championship. Within 24 hours, it’s already become the top seller among Marvel Cinematic Universe movies when it comes to first-day advance sales. Captain America: Civil War previously held the record. It’ll be interesting to see if Black Panther matches Civil War’s global take of $1.15 billion.
“‘Black Panther’ is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” said Fandango editor Erik Davis. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since pre-sales started on Fandango late Monday.”
Fandango also reported results from a user survey, revealing Black Panther was 2018’s second most-anticipated movie behind Avengers: Infinity War. According to Twitter, Black Panther was the ninth most tweeted about film of 2017.
Anticipation is definitely high for the film. Even the film’s stars are having a hard time snatching up tickets. Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Wakandan operative Nakia, tweeted her experience trying to get tickets. “I kid you not, 15 minutes later, I was trying to purchase tickets, and they are sold out,” Nyong’o gleefully declared. “Sold out!”
Black Panther arrives February 16. Check out the latest trailer below which premiered just a couple days. I can’t wait to check this out.
