Yesterday, Green Day frontman Billie Joel Armstrong decided it was time to head to rehab after a very aggravated and profane outburst at the end of Green Day’s set and this weekend’s iHeartRadio Music Festival. If you missed hearing about the rant, let me fill you in. During the bands last song, Billie quickly cut it short deciding to play a new song. Suddenly, he looks at the teleprompter which is telling him he only has one minute left before he needs to wrap it up. To say that Billy was not happy with the notion of being told to wrap it up would be a complete understatement at best.
The singer proceeded to drop the F bomb excessively in anger towards the festival for telling him to end his set. He goes on to yell that he’s been around since 1988 and that he’s not Justin Bieber. Just to be clear Billy Joel, there was never any confusion. In conclusion, Billie took off his guitar and began hammering it on the stage before signing off to the crowd and throwing the mic over his shoulder. Classy.
The bands rep told the Associated Press that Billy has now decided to seek treatment for substance abuse but no further details have been released at this point. While Armstrong has admitted to some drug and alcohol problems in his past, the notion was that he had remained clean up until this point. The rep also says that Green Day wants to apologize “to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival.” They also issued an apology to Clear Channel, the organization behind the festival stating they did not cut them off. If you want to check out the profane, NSFW and kind of uncomfortable moment, check out the video clip below.
