Billie Eilish is quickly becoming an obsession of mine. The 17-year-old singer-songwriter has released a couple of gems including her Khalid collabo “Lovely” and “When The Party’s Over.” The promising talent just released another solid offering.
“Wish You Were Gay” is off Eilish’s forthcoming debut album, When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? which arrives on March 29. The track was inspired by an unrequited love she had when she was 14. She explains below.
“‘wish you were gay‘ is about wanting to be with someone so bad it hurts, and not wanting to accept that this person doesn’t want you in return,” Billie said in a statement. “At least if they were gay, I’d have a valid reason for their rejection and lack of interest in being with me. I wrote the song when I was 14 and madly in love with a boy. It’s supposed to be a fun and playful way at dealing with rejection.”
As it turns out, the boy she wrote this song about actually did come out as gay. “And guess what? He just came out to me like a couple weeks ago. So I wrote the song and made him fuck a dude. I’m fucking proud, bro! Except not really though because I was really into him, like so into him, he’s so hot oh my God, he’s so attractive,” she explained in an Instagram clip.
