After a five-year hiatus, the Billboard Music awards came roaring back. I, myself, haven’t seen it yet as I’ve been out of town, but from what I’ve read it was an amazing show. Due to low ratings, the magazine took a break from producing a telecast show. They still gave out their yearly awards, just not in a grand public manner. Since it was a dawn of a new era, the show bumped up their normal Fall broadcast to a Spring date. Thus creating a perfect platform to promote upcoming concerts, movies, CDs and other projects. Plus with the warmer weather, it gave the ladies a chance to show off more skin in revealing outfits. I’ve picked a few of my favorite and not-so-favorite looks from the red carpet. Check them out below and be sure to cast your votes.
Beyonce was on hand to receive Billboard’s first ever Millennium Award. In other words, let’s create a brand new award so Beyonce can show up and pimp out her new projects. Her former band mates may have been there to support her, but both Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams stole the show with their red carpet looks. Rowland looked sexy in a tight hot pink body-hugging dress, while Williams put her spin on the little black dress. Backup no more. WERK, ladies.
Both of music’s hottest young commodities put on designer duds to work the red carpet. Selena Gomez wore Dolce & Gabbana, while Taylor Swift wore Elie Saab. Both look beautiful, but I’m giving this battle to Selena. I feel like I’ve seen this look on Taylor plenty of times before. I’m obsessed with Gomez’s cut-out dress. It’s sexy without being vulgar. Even though it’s a more mature dress, it suits Gomez. I swear, this girl is going to be stunning in a few more years. She’s just cute now. Bieber better hold on to her. He’s never going to do any better.
These R&B divas all gave rhythmically on-pitch looks and no blues. Keri Hilson has been hitting all the right notes lately, and this occasion was no different. She looks stunning in this canary yellow dress. Loved her choice of a turquoise belt to accessorize the look. Rihanna chose a white pant suit instead of her usual sheer looks as of late. It’s a more demure look for her but no less sexy. Great change of pace. For Nicki Minaj, this was tame and I loved it. It was still over-embellished but the baby blue color softened it a lot. At 40-years-old Mary J. Blige has officially entered cougar-dom. I wonder if that’s why she chose this animal-inspired print. Not my cup of tea, but it suits Blige.
These ladies may keep it simple by going by just one name, but they sure love flamboyant outfits. Before I found out who outfitted Fergie, I had a feeling it was Herve Leger. And low and behold I was right. I actually don’t mind it, but just not for Fergie. She really needs to tone down the raccoon eyes. Ke$ha… Let’s get the positive out of the way. At least it wasn’t trash bag couture. Satin is never a girl’s best friend when you have a bit of a pooch. If the “Tik Tok” singer was ever to marry, this is the kind of dress I could see her wearing. She kinda looks like Aubrey O’Day from Danity Kane here, and that’s not a good thing.
