2012 was relatively quiet for Beyonce. For others it would’ve been a busy year. After spending most of the year tending to her baby Blue Ivy, the 31-year-old singer is coming back with a vengeance. Prep yourself for a Beyonce onslaught.
Just in the next couple months, Bey will be debuting her HBO documentary, headlining the half-time show at the 47th annual Superbowl, releasing a brand new single and performing at President Obama’s inauguration. Can you imagine what she has in store for us for the rest of the year?
If that wasn’t enough, Mrs. Jay-Z is showing some under-boobage for the February 2013 GQ issue. The “Halo” singer was photographed by Terry Richardson in a very short cropped football jersey and animal-print panties. The publication choose to feature the Dreamgirls actress as part of their 100 Sexiest Women of the 21st Century editorial.
“One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete,” she says now. “You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.”
“I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want. I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.”
“I now know that, yes, I am powerful. I’m more powerful than my mind can even digest and understand.”
What do you think of the cover and photo shoot? Surprised Beyonce went this sexy for Terry Richardson? Back in 2003, her views on gratuitous sexiness was far different. Check out a quote from an interview years ago.
“Man, if I had a dollar for every time that kind of guy says, ‘you’ll only get the cover if you take off your pants’, I’d be a rich woman,” said Beyonce back in 2003 when discussing the pressure she receives to strip down for sexy photoshoots. “When they make those kinds of demands, I leave. Goodbye. I want to be respected and remembered for my talent in the first place, not for my booty.”
“Some women show some nudity in all their pics. But I am known for being prudish,” she continued. “I don’t have a problem with sexy clothes. Any really hot fashion thing I’ll wear. And I’ll put on a bikini if the scene is on the beach. But vulgar for no reason? Never.”
