Tyrell first informed you that Beyonce’s second official single would be “Best Thing I Never Had“. Now get your first listen at the track that Beyonce hopes will salvage her upcoming album. Personally, I’m glad that Bey has finally given up on “Run The World (Girls)“. While I’ve had fun mimicking some of the dance moves at the club, the track is certainly the reigning title holder of the biggest flop of 2011. I can’t imagine another stinker coming along to steal the crown.

With her first track, Mrs. Jay-Z definitely took chances. The same can’t be said for her follow up. “Best Thing I Never Had” is rather safe and more in the vein of “Irreplaceable” than “Single Ladies“. It’s got a non-offending sound and catchy hook. Certainly more radio-friendly than Girls. Super 90s producer, Babyface wrote the track. Sorta makes sense, since the single has a 90s melodic feel to it. Once you listen to it a couple of times, you’ll have it stuck in your head.

Beyonce “Best Thing I Never Had”

Chorus

I wanted you bad
I’m so through with it
Cuz honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had
You turned out to be the best thing I never had
And I’m gon’ always be the best thing you never had
I bet it sucks to be you right now

It’s definitely a 180 from the frenetic lead cut from Beyonce’s upcoming album, “4“. I wonder why she chose this mid-tempo song instead of the ballad “1+1″ she belted out at the “American Idol” finale. Personally, I liked her other leaked track better, “Till The End of Time“. Either way, they’re all better choices than Girls.
