Brit Brit was no match for Babs. Both released new albums during the same week, but the 74-year-old legendary singer came out on top. Streisand’s 35th studio album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, moved 149,000 album units, taking the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. A whopping 148,000 of that total was physical copies. Babs’ fans clearly like things old school.
Meanwhile, Britney Spears landed at No. 3 with 111,000 units, 88,000 in sales with Glory. Sandwiched in between the divas was Florida Georgia Line with 145K album units, 126K sales.
Barbra’s latest album is her 11th chart-topping effort. It’s the most by any female artist. Madonna is her closest rival with eight No. 1 LPs. Overall, The Beatles tops the list with 19 No. 1s, followed by Jay Z with 13. Billboard also points out that Streisand is the only act to have a No. 1 album in the last six decades- the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s.
