She may not be the first actress that comes to mind for this role, but her selection is absolutely inspired. Deadline is reporting that Sony is in negotiations with Amy Schumer to play Barbie in a live-action movie.
The 35-year-old actress will play “a character who lives in Barbieland, among all of the various Barbie characters beloved by collectors, who gets kicked out, basically because she’s not perfect enough and is a bit eccentric. She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in one self, free of trying to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection,” according to the publication.
No director has been locked down yet for the project, but Schumer is expected to rewrite an existing script with her sister Kim Caramele. Can’t wait to see her irreverent take on the iconic doll, who for many years embodied impossibly perfect physical proportions.
Production is set to begin in spring 2017 with a summer 2018 release date in mind. What do you think of this casting? Who should play Ken? Weigh in below.
