When the title of her new single “No Tears Left To Cry” was revealed, many thought it would be an emotional ballad about the Manchester terrorist attack. Instead, the Max Martin-produced bop is a dreamy affair with retro-sounding house synths. It’s not what I would’ve expected as her lead cut off her forthcoming fourth LP, but I love it.
The accompanying visual is equally excellent. The Dave Meyers-directed music video is Inception meets a classic Fred Astaire dance flick. Miss Grande defies gravity, floating in the air like an ethereal angel. She even channels vintage Lionel Richie and dances on the ceiling. No wonder all the single’s lead-up artwork had the title written upside down.
