The super popular and highly addictive iPhone and iPad app game Angry Birds is about to break another barrier. Its been reported that Angry Birds is being developed into a web or television cartoon series. Like these little birds being catapulted into obstructions to kill green pigs wasn’t silly enough, try creating a storyline to understand why exactly this is going on.

With over 50 million downloads of the popular app, Mikael Hed, the CEO of Rovio, the creators of Angry Birds says that the animated series will see the birds just as angry and fuming. According to his interview with the New York Post, he has been trying to take Angry Birds to other platforms for a while.

Last year, Rovio announced they were trying to make Angry Birds a feature film but now, Hed states the focus has completely shifted and that getting the show on TV is their main objective. Mikael said, “that was the first part of the exercise, and now that we’ve done that, the next part is to move into production, and that’s where we are right now.”

No details on characters or storylines have been released as honestly, they haven’t been created. Rovio is still hunting for writers to help them develop and create the series. However, Hed admits he wants the series to appeal to adults and children alike.

The Angry Birds are trying to be even more of a household name with Rovio developing plush toys, keychains, board games and clothing to also help promote the popular game. Is this craze going too far? Imagine if Tamagotchi’s would have had their own TV series and clothing line. That fad disappeared as quickly as it arrived. Is Angry Birds going to fall into that category? Will you watch the Angry Birds series?
