The cast of Girls were on hand to celebrate the second season premiere at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City on Wednesday, January 9. All the ladies looked stunning on the red carpet. Doesn’t the group photo above remind you of Sex and the City back in the day?
With just a few days before HBO airs the first episode of the sophomore season, comes word that someone is leaving the cast. Don’t panic, it’s NOT Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet or Jemima Kirke. PHEW. That said, I’m a little bummed out that this person is leaving the HBO comedy. Find out who’s jumping ship below.

I’m sad to report that it’s Andrew Rannells who’s departing. Rannells who plays Elijah, Hannah’s gay ex-boyfriend, will only appear in the first four episodes of the second season. On the finale, Elijah and Hannah agreed to move in together. I wonder what happens that forces him to vacate the apartment. Rannells revealed that his character will go out with a bang. I can’t wait.
“Oh my God, yeah. I was completely heartbroken … I mean, if I could be hanging out with Hannah all the time I would. So yes, I miss them terribly.” – Andrew Rannells
Sadly, the reason why Andrew is leaving isn’t due to creative reasons. It’s because of scheduling conflicts. Girls films in New York City while The New Normal films in Los Angeles. The long distance commute proved impossible. Nice dilemma to have for a working actor.
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world that I had this opportunity to do both of these shows, and it does come down to a scheduling thing and a timing thing,” – Andrew Rannells
Will you miss Andrew Rannells on Girls? Who do you think will move in with Hannah? Do you prefer Rannells on Girls or The New Normal? Sound off below.

I definitely like him better in Girls. The New Normal is just…no comment.

I agree with Brent. The New Normal lost its schtick and Rannells’ much better in Girls. Oh well…

Team New Normal here, i violently hated Girls after the first episode and wanted slap the entire cast. I only started watching it because of Rannells…..I’m glad he’s sticking with the New Normal

New Normal is such a bad show so he can stay on there because i can’t stand watching it. And glad he’s off Girls, that show doesn’t need a gay character on there.

His character on Girls was way underdeveloped…as are most of the characters on that show. Frumpy girl with gay ex boyfriend….so unoriginal. Besides, he is around 10 years older than her, and we are supposed to believe they were in school together. Girls is such an overrated show. Also, what’s with a girl right out of college with no job writing her memoirs?

I love him in both, but why stay around as a supporting cast member, when you’re staring on your own show? The decision makes sense. BTW i like how he can easily play ten year difference in his characters. In “Girls” he’s suppose to be in his early 20′s like Hannah, while in ‘Normal” he’s in his early 30s. He’s so hot it doesn’t matter.
