You might find this surprising given that I watch practically every talent competition show on the air, but for some reason I’ve never tuned in to America’s Got Talent. Now that Melanie Brown aka Scary Spice is joining the panel, I just might have to check out the next season. I do love my Spice Girls.

Mel B. steps in to replace Sharon Osbourne who quit the show after having a war of words with NBC. Her son Jack was supposed to compete on the network’s reality show Stars Earn Stripes, but was turned down due to his multiple sclerosis and feared the physically demanding stunts would be too much. In all honesty, I used to be a huge fan of Sharon but lately grown tired of her. I understand standing up for your kids, but she does it way too often, especially with Kelly Osbourne’s public feuds. You can’t mother them forever.

Brown joins Howard Stern and Howie Mandel who are returning for their second and fourth season respectively. This isn’t the first time Melanie has judged a Got Talent show. She was a regular one on the Australian version and guest hosted the UK edition. NBC president of alternative Paul Telegdy couldn’t be happier with her addition. Check out a few flattering words about his new hire.

“I’ve known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars, and I’ve known her as a performer of The Spice Girls before that. To know her is?to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. Someone who has a very strong point of view. We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She’s an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her and I can’t wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie.” – Paul Telegdy

Telegdy exclusively told EW.com that a fourth judge might be added to the show if the right person comes along. If they bring on another judge, it’ll fall in line with all the international editions which typically have a judging quartet. I say only do it if the chemistry works. I’ve always favored a three judge panel, but will admit to liking the four combo on The Voice and on American Idol’s current season.

What do you think of Mel B’s addition? Do you think another Spice Girl would’ve been better? Do you think a fourth judge is needed? Sound off below.
